1. Women’s Association for Rational Development

Project: Gender Equality for Municipal Development
Overview:The project addresses the lack of cooperation between local communities and municipalities. Current project focuses on empowering community women to take part in local decision-making, to ensure that the interests of the communities and specifically women are taken into account by local governance institutions. The project envisages establishment of the first Women Chambers in Azerbaijan attached to Municipalities to function as a gender-mainstreaming tool for municipal planning and local self-governance.

Project: Increasing the responsibility of consumers for decreasing the inflation
Overview: The project goal is to enhance active citizen’s participation in government’s pricing policy. The project will achieve its goal through a two tier approach by targeting both the government and civil society. The project envisages a number of activities aimed at increasing public awareness among consumers and revision of respective local and international legislation.

Project: The state of the rule of law of the provisions on “Competition Body”described in the Country Strategy Paper of the EU – Approximation of Azerbaijan’s legal system to European acqui communautaire
Overview: This project’s aim is to raise public awareness by drafting recommendations to the Competition Code and advocate for its adoption on the national level. In order to achieve its objectives, the grantee will build a strong cooperation with potential stakeholders from civil society, business and government. A Position Paper drafted by a group of experts will be submitted to the National Parliament (Committee on Economic Policy and Committee on Legal Issues and State Building) following the public discussions with participation of stakeholders, governmental officials, businesses, civil society and media.

Project: Disability Demistified: A Self Transformation
Overview: During the nine month project period, BUTA will implement the advocacy campaign, which will be grounded on the social model of disability. The Social Model of Disability states that inclusion of PWD is ultimately about removing physical, information and attitudinal barriers in society with disabilities to speak for them. Experience shows that when disabled person speaks with confidence and authority about a particular situation, non-disabled audiences are more likely to believe that people with disabilities are literate competent.

5. Caucasus Media Investigation Center Public Union

Project: Support democratic reforms and freedom of expression through new information technologies – Live TV Streaming
Overview: CMIC aims to develop new internet media outlet – Kanal 13 Internet TV – by applying new and advanced internet technologies. This internet media outlet will address the need of alternative non-controlled platform for expression of opinion of all political and civil society actors. The grantee considers reaching groups, which have limited internet connection through dissemination of their programs burned on CD’s. “Chanel 13” will create an interactive discussion space to enable people both locally and abroad to participate in the online discussions and share their opinions.

Project: Social Media Website – Best Tools to Enhance Users’ Online Presence
Overview: Social media websites can be used for educational purposes. If a user knows the appropriate tools and plug-ins, then they can turn Facebook, Twitter and WordPress, etc. into learning tools. But many users in Azerbaijan are not aware of those tools or are not capable to access them due to language barrier. In the framework of the project, Digital Development will create a one stop shops website to provide necessary resources and information to enhance knowledge and skills on new media tools and their application in Azerbaijani language to internet users.

Project: Social- Economic Empowerment of Women in the Flood-Affected Rural Areas of Azerbaijan
Overview: The unprecedented large-scale flood, occurred in the southern and central parts of Azerbaijan in April – May 2010, has negatively affected local rural women. In addition to their usual low socio-economic status they confronted with a lot of socio-economic and psychological difficulties. Therefore, they urgently need emergency relief, rehabilitation and assistance, as well as socio-economic empowerment in terms of special knowledge, skills and tools in order to cope with current situation and ensure their own sustainable development. Current project focuses on empowering community women to take part in socio-economic initiatives.
