BP supports EPF in developing the capacity of municipalities

EPF’s expert made an introductory visit to targeted municipalities of Garabork (Ujar), Orta Leki (Agdash), Aran (Yevlakh), Jinli Boluslu (Goranboy), Aghasibeyli (Samukh), Deller Jeyir (Shamkir), Deller Dashbulag (Shamkir), Garakhanli (Tovuz), Girili (Aghstafa). The visits were organized within the framework of EPF’s Local Governance and Environment Program which is funded by BP and its co-venturers in Azerbaijan.
The project`s objectives include providing capacity-building to municipalities in the areas of strategic planning and performance measurement. It is also planned that, within the environmental component of the project, EPF will award small sub-grants to youth chambers to support them in addressing environmental challenges in their communities.
It is expected that the project will lead to establishing youth chambers within municipalities to train and engage young people through enhancing their leadership and project management potential in addressing local level environmental challenges in their communities.
During the visits on January 22-25, 2012 several meetings were organized with the heads of the targeted municipalities. In addition to municipal officials, other municipal members and servants, as well as representatives of local authorities and communities took part in the meeting. The participants of the meeting were informed about EPF’s Transparency in Municipal Service Delivery Program, funded by SIDA, and EPF’s Local Governance and Environment Program, funded by BP. In all meetings, the representatives of targeted municipalities expressed their interest in cooperation with EPF and BP.
