EPF contributed and participated at a conference in the Parliament Conference Hall organized by EPF’s partner- Azerbaijan Lawyers Confederation on “Conformity of the Azerbaijan Draft Competition Code with the principles described in the EU’s Azerbaijan Country Strategy Paper” project on 17 June 2011. The conference was attended by representatives of Parliament Committee of Policy of Law and Committee of Economic Policy, Mr. Roland Kobia, Ambassador of EU in Azerbaijan, Mr. Bakhram Atabeyli, Counselor of Sweden in Azerbaijan, the representatives of OSCI, USAID, and representatives of other international organizations accredited in Azerbaijan and local non-governmental and civil society organizations. The conference was dedicated to the draft of the new Customs Code. The members of the parliament indicated that the draft was ready and would be submitted to the third hearing of the parliamentary discussion. The next meeting on the subject is planned for August 2011.
The project on “Conformity of the Azerbaijan Draft Competition Code with the principles described in the EU’s Azerbaijan Country Strategy Paper” is implemented by EPF In partnership with the Azerbaijan Lawyers Confederation in the framework of European Program. The project aims to raise public awareness by drafting recommendations to the Competition Code and advocate for its adoption on the national level. In order to achieve its objectives, the grantee will build a strong cooperation with potential stakeholders from civil society, business and government. A Position Paper drafted by a group of experts will be submitted to the National Parliament (Committee on Economic Policy and Committee on Legal Issues and State Building) following the public discussions with participation of stakeholders, governmental officials, businesses, civil society and media.
