The Eurasian Partnership Foundation (EPF) continues the implementation of the “Gender Mainstreaming in Local Governance” project in the framework of the “Transparency in Local Governance” program supported by the Canada Fund. Another workshop was held under the project in the Siyazen Municipality building. The event was attended by women residing on the territory of the municipality and representing different social groups. Like in other target municipalities of the project, in the Siyazen municipality, too, the program experts Abil Bayramov and Rovshan Agayev made presentations and held discussions on the topic of Local Self-Governance in Azerbaijan: legislation and experience, women’s participation in exploration and solution of community needs, their role in gender budgeting and in the solution of community needs, development and management of projects.
The workshop participants highly evaluated the project’s main objective of promoting women’s participation in the local decision-making process and expressed their will to actively partake in this initiative. Later on the first day of the workshop, Women’s Chambers were established consisting of active ladies. The Women’s Chambers will work towards exploration of women’s problems on the given territory, organization of community discussions regarding the problems, developing problem solution proposals and presenting them to state and municipal agencies.
During the event, discussions were also held around the main idea of the project to be presented to EPF by the Women’s Chambers. It should be noted that the Eurasian Partnership Foundation intends to support the project proposals corresponding to the program requirements and presented as the first initiatives of the Women’s Chambers in the target municipalities.
