The Eurasian Partnership Foundation (EPF) continues the implementation of the “Gender Mainstreaming in Local Governance” project in the framework of the “Transparency in Local Governance” program supported by the Canada Fund. One of the events under the project was held in the Mingachevir Municipality building. At the workshop organized for women residing on the territory of the municipality and representing different social groups, the program experts Abil Bayramov and Rovshan Agayev made presentations and held discussions on the topic of Local Self-Governance in Azerbaijan: legislation and experience, women’s participation in exploration and solution of community needs, their role in gender budgeting and in the solution of community needs, development and management of projects.

During the event, another strategic step was made towards promotion of women’s participation. For the purpose of more structured support to women’s initiatives, the workshop participants established Women’s Chambers consisting of active ladies. The Eurasian Partnership Foundation intends to support the project proposal presented as the first initiative of the Women’s Chambers and corresponding to the program requirements.

______It is worthy of note that the “Gender Mainstreaming in Local Governance” project of EPF covers not only Mingachevir, but also Gabala, Zagatala, Lenkaran and Siyazen municipalities. Women’s initiative groups have already been established in Gabala, Zagatala and Lenkaran, while Siyazen women are expected to get together for the same purpose in the nearest future.
