In the framework of the Youth Fund program, established by Eurasia Partnership Foundation and supported by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, a series of activites were held for Youth Fund members in 8 regions of Azerbaijan (Ganja, Qazakh, Aghstafa, Tovuz, Shamkir, Samux, Yevlax, Goygol) in March-May of 2011. In total 23 projects have been implemented by 63 participants and beneficiaries living in the mentioned territories.
The level of the familiarity of the society determines its capacity to address and deal with environmental issues. When members of society have increased awareness, it is likely that they will pay more attention and show commitment to climate changes. To inform, inspire and empower Azerbaijani youth to make positive change regarding environmental issues, Aghstafa Youth Fund organized “Young Environmentalists” training for 30 young people from Aghstafa region of Azerbaijan.
In addition to promoting environmental awareness, EPF brought young people together from the region to facilitate the exchange of experiences as well as to apply their knowledge in practice. After one-day training delivered by expert, tree planting ceremony was organized with the participation of trainees. Participants planted 30 tings, provided by Youth Fund in Aghstafa city. This group of activists is now capable of exploring and developing new ideas for environmental protection and providing their newly gained local experiences to cope with environmental hazards.
